Studying Politicians

Image
I decided to focus on the Constitution Party for this blog post. The Constitution Party is an extremely conservative political party in the United States. Members of this party are dedicated to limiting the federal government to its expressed constitutional boundaries. Whereas the politician that I chose to study, Gavin Newsom, is of a different belief. Gavin Newsom (pictured below) is a member of the democratic party and has been the Liutenant Governor of California for the past 6 years.         For the Constitution Party (their symbol is pictured to the right), I chose to analyze a podcast done by their nominated candidate from the 2016 election, Darrell Castle. The podcast is titled, "The Real Meaning of the Clinton Decision" and focuses mainly on discrediting Democratic candidate from the 2016 election, Hillary Clinton. This podcast was released in November of 2016 before the actual election so clearly at this point, Castle knew he had no chance at the presi

Liberal vs Conservative Groups on Gun Control

Image
The issue that I decided to focus on is gun control. There has been a lot of back and forth between conservative and liberal groups on how we should approach this. The liberal interest group I decided to focus on is the CSGV (Coalition to Stop Gun Violence). As made clear by the name, this interest group is dedicated to enforcing gun laws in order to prevent gun violence. One of the articles they published appeared in the Huffington Post entitled, “Trump And The NRA Armed White Supremacists — And Torched The Constitution.” This article begins by depicting events which occurred in Charlottesville.  The image above is included in the article. The author then goes on to criticize President Trump for not condemning the Nazis and White Supremacists for what they did in Charlottesville. It is evident that the author has a clear bias against Donald Trump due to his point of view. For one, he is a part of the CSGV. The CSGV is against gun use and against anyone who supports it. Ergo

My Political Ideology

I have learned more about myself and my political views/ideology in these past few years then I had in the previous 13-14. Coming from a highly religious Christian family, it is easy to admit that the majority of my morals/beliefs derive from Christianity. Along with my religion, relatively strict parents have also had a large impact on the way that I think. As I touched on, for the first 13-14 years of my life, my beliefs and way of thinking stayed quite close to that of my parents. I would say that it was not until I neared the age of 15 that my beliefs began to differ.        It was early to mid 2015 and the potential legalization of gay marriage in all fifty states of the US was gaining more attention and media coverage. On a late night, I heard my parents speaking rather loudly and condemning the very idea of gay marriage. They talked about how the bible looks down upon intimacy amongst the same sex. I was rather set back by their hurtful words. Though I am not gay myself,
